Want to take a trip back in time? How about back to the 50's? If it's anything like the TV reruns, it was a time where mom, dad, and the whole family came together at the table at the beginning and ending of every day and discussed life, their plans and dreams. Ah, those were the days.
They were all looking at one another with a complete understanding, as a held together family unit. If something went wrong, and one of the kids got in trouble, there was no harsh punishment, they would sit around the dinette sets in the kitchen and discuss the wrongdoing, learn the error of their ways, and life was blissful again.

Ok, so maybe that was just on those old TV shows like Leave it to Beaver, but it sure seems like a great idea of a way to live. While you may not be able to have the picture perfect, calm, gather for meals family in your home, you can at least have the dinette sets that went with the look of the classic 50's kitchen.
Back then, furniture was smaller. They didn't need a large, gaudy kitchen table, simple dinette sets would do the trick of holding plates for everyone, and letting the family sit close to one another. This was something looked forward to, time for the family to get together and communicate.
When it comes to creating the rest of the look to your 50's flash back kitchen, think chrome and vinyl. The appliances, canisters and other items that are going to decorate the space should be in that great steel or silver chrome color.
When choosing your dinette sets, remember chrome and vinyl. While you could just opt for vinyl-only seats, keep in mind this can become uncomfortable after a while, as a cushion-less chair can be hard on the backside. Besides, why would you pass on the idea of vinyl seat cushions? Often the vinyl comes in bright colors that will add a splash of excitement to the entire kitchen space.
If you do choose dinette sets with colored vinyl, make sure you note that color when you are accenting the rest of your kitchen, if you want to create a cohesive look. Some colors just don't go together, even if they are bright vinyl, so you need to make sure you choose colors that are complimentary and avoid ones that clash.
In addition to being fashionable, the 50's retro kitchen décor theme is also a great way to make a small kitchen functional. If you have an order home, or are living in a smaller apartment or condo, you know the feeling. Your kitchen seems cramped if you try to put a regular kitchen table in the space. This is where dinette sets come in. These compact, yet classy tables will fit into much smaller spaces, while offering the seating solution to give your family a chance to gather around the table, as they did so long ago.
